What were the main reasons for Wolsey’s fall?
-Hated by the nobility.
-Annulment failure

Why was Wolsey blamed for the failure of the annulment?
-Had promised Henry.
-Sack of Rome out of his control.
-Making it less likely for a male heir
What was the Boleyn faction?
-Boleyn was plotting against Wolsey in July 1525, but Henry was still loyal to his chancellor, so he stopped it.
-Disappointed over annulment.
-Lost her support over failure of legatine court at Blackfriars
What was the amicable grant?
Non-parliamentary tax on the rich to help Henry gain more money to support a war with France.
-Abandoned in May 1525

Henry.
What were the effects of the Amicable grant?
-Wolsey switched from alliance with Charles V to Francis.
-Rebellion- Suffolk and east Anglia, 10,000 men marching on Lavenham.

How did the nobility respond to the amicable grant crisis?
The dukes of Norfolk and Suffolk did their best to try and restore order.
Why was Wolsey disliked by the nobility?
Resentment because he was of a low birth- son of an Ipswich Butcher.
-Had immense power and depleted that of the nobility.
-His unpopular enclosure policies.
-French alliance disliked because it disrupted trade.
