-She was likely a political pawn who was not willing to become queen.

- An experienced solider would have had the correct forces, ensured Mary was captured and unable to raise forces and he would have launched a propaganda campaign.

- When Mary re-entered London she was greeted with enthusiasm and proclaimed queen.
