A

-Richard III seized his Nephews Edward and Richard, takes them to the tower and declared himself as protector.

-He then declared them both bastards and took the crown for himself.

-Richard III had already been unpopular, rumoured he killed the children if Edward IV in order to take the throne.

-The country needed peace and stability after the wars.

-Richard III was dead and the majority of those with a better claim.

-He had not dependent on another noble family to help him take the throne.

A

1- Some of Richards supporters were still alive such as Northumberland a powerful noble.

2- Henry VII had a weak claim to the throne.

3- Yorkist heirs such as the De La Pole family were still alive.

4- No experience of government and was unknown to most subjects- he had spent fourteen years in exile after the Lancastrians were defeated at Tewksbury in 1471.

5- How he should be rewarding his subjects/nobles.

How did Henry solve some of his problems after the battle of Bosworth? (7)

A

1-imprisoned Northumberland and only allowed his son to be released after loyalty promises, after 20 years and the idea that he had proved himself, he gave him land and titles.

2-A very speedy and lavish coronation and marriage to Elizabeth of York.

3-He imprisoned the young Earl of Warwick, keep a close eye on the De La Pole family and marry Elizabeth of York.

4-Hired Edward IV’s supporters to help run the country.

5-Some rewards- avoiding overmighty nobles

6-Backdated his reign to the day before Bosworth, anyone fighting him a traitor.

7-Quick coronation so they couldn’t claim parliament made him king.
