Q

How does the body respond to vascular injury?

A

vasospasm, platelets help form platelet plug, the body responds to the plug by forming fibrin mesh, followed by fibrinolysis, fibrin is then replaced by collagen

16
Q

If defects occur during secondary hemostasis, what happens?

A

more serious bleeding than primary hemostasis
bleeding into body cavities and bruising

17
Q

What is tertiary hemostasis?

A

formation of the plasmin

18
Q

What is plasmin?

A

the enzyme responsible for fibrinolysis

19
Q

What are acquired disorders?

A

occurs secondary to a disease process

20
Q

What are some acquired disorders?

A

DIC, Erlichia, Immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP), vaccine induced thrombocytopenia, drug induced thrombocytopenia, Vitamin K deficiency, toxicities

21
Q

What can vitamin K deficiency be caused by?

A

rodenticides

22
Q

What are the four most common inherited diseases?

A

Von Willebrand disease, Hemophilia, Canine thrombopathia, Immune mediated thrombocytopenia
