Hemorrhage Flashcards
Disseminated intravascular coagulation
A grave coagulopathy that results from the overstimulation of the clotting and anti clotting processes in response to disease or injury
Hemostasis
The cessation of bleeding by mechanical or chemical means or by substances that arrest the blood flow
Pulse pressure
The difference between systemic and pulmonic pressure
External hemorrhage
Results from soft tissue injury
Internal hemorrhage
Result from a blunt or penetrating trauma and can also result from acute or chronic illnesses
Clotting
Clotting of blood is the initial response of the body to hemorrhage
Vascular system
Lined up with smooth low friction endothelial cells
Distributive shock
Neurogenic shock
Anaphylactic shock
Septic shock
Obstructive shock
Obstruction to blood flow
Major chest injury usually penetrating injury recent surgery or long bone fracture
PASG mast pants
Contraindication Pulmonary edema Cardiogenic shock Ruptured diaphragm Hemorrhage within the chest cavity Impaled objects in the abdomen Advanced pregnancy Evisceration
Hemorrhage goal
Rapid recognition of the event
Initiation of treatment
Prevention of additional injury
Rapid transport
