o Fissuring of corners of mouth
o Due to nutritional deficiency or lack of teeth → causes over biting
o Moist corners susceptible to candida infection
Angular cheilitis
o Pre-cancerous condition due to too much sun exposure
o Lower lips lose color and becomes scaly
Actinic cheilitis
o Recurrent, PAINFUL vesicles
o Have yellow brown crust
o Heal in 10-14 days
Herpes simplex
o Localized swelling of lower lip
o Triggered by mast cells (allergic rxn)
o Usually benign, lasts 24-48 hrs.
o Can be life threatening if in upper air way
Angioedema
o Multiple small red spots
o AD endothelial disorder
o Causes vascular fragility and arteriovascular malformation (AVM)
o Nosebleeds, GI bleeding, iron deficiency anemia common
Hereditary Hemorrhagic telangiectasia
o Small brown spots around lips
o AD syndrome
o Accompanying numerous GI polyps
o Risk of GI and other cancers
Peute-Jelghers Syndrome
o Ulcerated papule with indurated edge o Lesions also seen in pharynx, anus, vagina o PAINLESS o Heal spontaneously in 3-6 weeks o CONTAGIOUS
Chancre (of Primary Syphilis)
o Squamous cell carcinoma, scaly plaque
o Usually lower lip
o More common in fair-skinned people
