o Location: variable; best heard in 3rd intercostal space left of sternum
o Radiation: little
o Intensity: variable; increases when PT leans forward, exhales and holds breath
o Best heard with diaphragm; scratchy, scraping
Pericardial Friction Rub
o Timing: continuous murmur in both systole and diastole often with silent interval in late diastole
o Location: left 2nd intercostal space
o Radiation: towards left clavicle
o Intensity: usually loud, sometimes associated with thrill
o Loudest in late systole; obscures S2 and fades in diastole
o Harsh, medium pitch
