o Firm, nodular, hypertrophic mass of scar tissue extending beyond area of
injury
o More common in darker skinned people and may recur following
treatment
Keloid
o Chronic inflammatory lesion
o Starts as PAINFUL, tender papule on helix or antihelix
o Reddening may occur
o Biopsy is needed to rule out carcinoma
Chondrodermatitis Helicis
o Hard nodular deposit of uric acid crystals on helix or antihelix
o Discharge white chalky crystals
o Associated with gout
Tophi
o Raised nodule with lustrous surface and telangiectatic vessels
o Common slow growing malignancy that rarely metastizes
o Growth and ulceration may occur
o More frequent in fair skinned people overexposed to sunlight
Basal Cell Carcinoma
o Dome shaped lump in dermis forms benign closed firm sac attached to
dermis
o Epidermoid cyst: common on face and neck
o Pilar cyst: common on scalp
Cutaneous Cyst
o in chronic rheumatoid arthritis
o small lump on helix or antihelix (may also be on forearm ulnar side)
o ulceration may result from repeated injuries
o nodules antedate the arthritis
Rheumatoid Nodules
