Health Behaviour's Flashcards
What is the aim of public health?
To identify and change individual behaviours and social determinants of health
What are behavioural pathogens?
behaviour that increases the risk of disease
What are behavioural immunogens?
behaviour that reduces the riske of disease
In general what are behavioural pathogens and immunogens?
They are learnt behaviours from childhood that are difficult to change.
What is Azjen and Madden’s theory of planned behaviour?
It helps to identify the reasons why people do or do not carry out health behaviours.
As well as identifying the cognitions and emotions that are associated with changing motivation and behaviour
(intention, attitude, social norms, perceived control)
What 3 things help health promotion interventions to be effective?
1) more effective when they target people’s motivations and cognition to change behaviour
2) fear and factual info (although necessary) are not enough to change behaviour.
3) Interventions at different levels in society e.g. law, personal knowledge and infrastructure - together can help change behaviour.
