What are Stress Appraisals
the process of evaluating and coping with a stressful event
What is the difference between Primary and Secondary Appraisals
Primary = Evaluating how much demand is associated with the stress
Secondary = evaluating resources available for coping with it
What are the 3 factors that affect the appraisal process
Novelty = have I experienced this before?
Predictability = Can I prepare for it?
Event uncertainty = Do I know it will happen?

What are the 3 TEMPORAL factors affecting stress appraisal
imminence = how soon will it happen?
Duration = how long will it last?
Temporal Uncertainty = do I know WHEN it will happen?
What does SRRS stand for and what does it do
Social Readjustment Rating Scale
adds up the life changing units for each event that happened to you in the previous year
In the SRRS how many points equal high risk, moderate, and low risk for illness because of stress
less than 150 = low
150-299 = moderate
over 300 = high
