Deviance
Distress (behaviours thoughts and feelings that cause pain/suffering)
Dysfunctional (behaviours thoughts and feelings that interfere with a persons routine)
Dangerous (harmful to self/others
Why are assigning diagnosis’s helpful? (3 reasons)
- provides an explanation for abnormal behaviours
- provides common knowledge for clinicians
- helpful in tracking rates of disorders
what are two bad things about “labels”
Derogatory terms (like psycho, crazy) and can be used to excuse unacceptable behaviours
What is Stigma
the poor treatment and discrimination due to being different
What are some stigmas for people diagnosed with psychological disorders
that they are dangerous or that its a conscious choice. It is caused by witchcraft or demonic possession

a surgical procedure in which a hole was drilled in a human skill to release evil spirits
What is Eugenics
encouraging reproduction to people with desirable qualities (positive eugenics) and discouraging reproduction to people with undesirable qualities (negative eugenics)
