What is the Health and Safety at work act 1974?
Legislation that established key responsibilities employers and employees have to follow so the environment is safe and is constantly checked using risk assessments. Ensure the workplace is safe, maintained, provide equipment and provide first aid.
What is the management of health and safety at work regulations 1999?
Legislation that provides guidelines for employers at care environments, up to date policies that ensures the place is reviewed and everything is carried out safely by using training and supervision. Includes accident reporting, providing equipment and first aid and to report any hazards.
What is the Food safety act 1990?
Ensures food is fit for human consumption by maintaining personal hygiene by cleaning and seperating food along with keeping records of food
What is the food safety regulations 1995
Puts food safety controls and monitoring in place to ensure food and food environments are kept clean and in good condition. Ensures food is seperated and stored in different places. Prevents spread of disease and also provides protective equipment to prevent illness.
What is the manual handling operations act 1992?
Ensures hazardous handling of objects can be avoided through risk assessments and monitoring, ensures objects are lifted efficiently including use of equipment.
What is the reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations act 2013 (RIDDOR)
Act which requires that work related accidents are reported and help for 3 years and that risk assessments are carried out and safety equipment is provided.
What is the Data protection act 1998?
Ensures information is stored safely, up to date and accurate and is shared on a need to know basis
What is the control of substances to health act 2002 (coshh)
Ensures risk assessments are carried out on hazardous substances such as cleaning products and they are correctly labelled and safely stored.
What is the civil contingences act 2004?
Act that sets out how organisations should work together tor respond to emergencies and how care settings can work together in an emergency, ensures risk assessment is carried out on the environment.
What is a DBS check
System used in safeguarding which decides whether or not a person is appropriate to work in a health and social care setting
What are the types of DBS checks
Standard: checks for warnings and convictions
Enhanced: same as standard but includes police info
Enhanced with list checks: includes barred lists
What is legislation supposed to provide for employees
Maintaining own and others health, follow guidance and instruction, health and safety training, use up to date ppe equipment, report hazards in work setting
What does legislation do for employers
Have to provide safe environment and ensure staff work in a safe manner, prevent accidents with risk assessments and making sure work practices and hazards are safe and secure, provide secure systems for reporting and investigating incidents
What happens if you don’t follow legislation and responsibilities
Get sued, prison time, mandatory training, loss of job
