Head and neck 2(Nasal cavity) Flashcards
What are the three major regions that the nasal cavity is split into?
- Olfactory region
- Respiratory region
- Nasal vestibules
What cells do meatus contain?
Meatus contain pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium cells
What does the cribriform plate house?
House all the olfactory nerves
Where does the frontal sinus drain into?
Frontal sinus drain directly into the superior aspect of the ethmoidal.
Where does the nasolacrimal duct run down and drain into?
Nasolacrimal duct running down from the nasal aperture draining into the inferior aspect
What is the uncinate process the entrance and exit to?
Uncinate process is the entrance and exit of the maxillary sinus
What is the maxillary sinus in close proximity to and why is this an issue?
Maxillary sinus in close proximity to molars
- Toothaches or abscess can cause pain
- Sinusitis can also cause pain to molar
What cells is the entirety of the respiratory tract lined with?
-Entirety of respiratory tract lined by pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium cells
What nerve innervates the nasal cavities?
Olfactory nerve
What nerve is involved in general sensation of the anterior region of the nasal cavities?
The anterior region ophthalmic nerve v1
What nerve is involved in general sensation of the posterior region of the nasal cavities?
The posterior region maxillary nerve v2
What are all glands supplied by in nasal cavities?
All glands are supplied by parasympathetic fibres in the great petrosal nerve branch of facial nerve.
What nerve innervates the frontal sinus?
Supra orbital V1
What supplies the frontal sinus?
Anterior ethmoidal arteries
What nerve innervates the ethmoidal cells?
Anterior and posterior ethmoidal branches of the nasociliary nerve V1 and V2
