HAP Flashcards
Why are these grouped together?
RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS
HAP are 4?
- Haemophilus
- Histophilus
- Actinobacillus
- Pasteurella
Glasser’s disease
Haemophilus parasuis (pigs), concurrent viral infection, causes polyserositis and endothelial disruptions
Is haemophilus commensal?
yeah, it chills in the respiratory tract, so usually an opportunistic secondary infection
Histophilus somni
part of bovine respiratory disease complex in feedlot calves (stressed), causes somnolence
Somnolence
strong desire to sleep for long period of time
Hemotogenous spread
done by H. somni
bacteria adhere to endothelium of vessels, endothelial cells apoptose, leading to vasculitis, petechia, thrombi –> tissue death
Where does Histophilus somni ALWAYS end up?
UTERUS
Actinobacillus ligniersii disease?
Wooden tongue in adult cattle!
Actinobacillus equuli disease?
sleepy foal disease (septicemia in foals)
Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia
SUDDEN DEATH in pigs due to endotoxin (LPS), has rapid rate of cell division so body is quickly overwhelmed; very virulent
Diseases caused by Pasteurella multocida (3)
- Atrophic rhinitis
- Shipping fever (BRDC)
- Fowl cholera
Two most common capsule types in P. multocida?
A and D
Pastuerella multocida toxin (PMT)
works with Bordetella demonecrotic toxin (DNT) to cause atropic rhinitis
WHAT IS THE MOST FREQUENT BACTERIAL PATHOGEN ASSOCIATED WITH SHIPPING FEVER?
Mannheimia haemolytica (serotype A1)
