List the steps of the Handwashing/Handrub procedure
- Turn on the faucet with a clean paper towel.
- Adjust the water to an acceptable temperature.
- Angle arms down, holding hands lower than the elbows. Wet hands and wrists.
- Apply enough soap to cover all hand and wrist surfaces. Work up a lather.
NOTE: Direct caregivers must rub hands together vigorously, as follows, for at least 20 seconds, covering all surfaces of the hands and fingers. - Rub hands palm to palm.
- Right palm over top of left hand with interlaced fingers and vice versa.
- Palm to palm with fingers interlaced.
- Backs of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked.
- Rotational rubbing of left thumb clasped in right palm and vice versa.
- Rotational rubbing backwards and forwards with clasped fingers of right hand in left palm and vice versa. Clean finger nails.
- Rinse hands with water down from wrists to fingertips.
- Dry thoroughly with single use towels.
- Use towel to turn off faucet and discard towel.
Otherwise use hand rub. - Apply quarter sized amount of the product in a cupped hand and cover all surfaces.
- Rub hands palm to palm.
- Right palm over left dorsum with interlaced fingers and vice versa.
- Palm to palm with fingers interlaced.
- Backs of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked.
- Rotational rubbing, backwards and forwards with clasped fingers of right hand in left palm and vice versa.
- Rotational rubbing backwards and forwards with clasped fingers of right hand in left palm and vice versa.
- Allow hands to dry. Waterless hand rubs must be rubbed for at least 10 seconds or until dry to be effective.

Faucet may be used by the resident/visitors and should be kept as clean as possible.

Water should run from most clean to most soiled.
