List the steps in the Axillary Temperature procedure
- Remove the thermometer from storage or the battery charger.
- Do initial steps procedure.
- Position the resident comfortably in the bed or chair.
- Put on disposable sheath, remove the resident’s arm from the sleeve of their clothing or gown, wipe their armpit, and ensure it is dry. Hold the thermometer in place with the end in the center of the armpit and fold the resident’s arm over their chest.
- Press the button to activate the thermometer.
- Hold the thermometer in place until the signal is heard, indicating the temperature has been obtained.
- Read the temperature reading on the face of the electronic device, remove the thermometer, discard the sheath, and record the reading.
- Assist the resident to return their arm through the sleeve of their clothing or gown.
- Do final steps procedure.
- Return the thermometer to storage or battery charger.
- Report any unusual readings to the nurse.
