- Do the final steps procedure.
What is the rationale for step “2. Move the resident to the supine position.”?
Places the resident in the proper position and alignment.
What is the rationale for step “3. Elevate the head of the bed by 45 to 60 degrees.”?
Improves breathing, and allows the resident to see the room and visitors.
What is the rationale for step “4. Use supportive padding if necessary.”?
Maintains the position, prevents friction, and reduces pressure on the bony prominences. Padding may be used under the neck, shoulders, arms, hands, ankles, and lower back. Never use padding under the knees, unless directed to by the nurse, as it may restrict blood flow to the lower legs.
