Haemochromatosis

A

PC: Young male or older female. Organ damage: Liver, heart, brain, pancreas. Bronze diarrhoea. Arthropathy. FmHx
Ex: Pigamentation,
Jaundice, Shock, Paler erthyma, Hepatic flap, brusing, Leuconychia, Muekrcke’s line. Arthropathy, Scleral icterus, fetor hepaticas. Caput medusa, distention, prominent viens, fluid thrill, venous hums.
Elevated JVP. Cardiomegaly
Hypogonadism and testicular atrophy.
Sign of diabetes
Ix
IS - fasting serum transferrin saturation greater then 45%
CRP normal
Plasma ferritin high
Genetic studies for HFE mutation analysis-C282Y or H63D
Mx
Moderate iron diet
Venopuncture weekly of 550ml until Ferritin between 50-150
