Commonest is menopause

Causes of Male hypogonadism
A
primary - at gland. Testicular injury, Klinefelter’s syndrome
Secondary - at pituitary
- adenoma especially hyperprolactinaemia which suppresses them - hypopiuitarism
- Hypothalamic tumours
- Kallmann’s syndrome
- Haemochromatosis

Symptoms of Hypogonadism in males
A
It is a rare cause of male impotence and infertility Loss of drive and libido Reduced beard growth Erectile failure Anorgasmia A reduced volume of ejaculate Reduced testicular volumes

Ix for hypogonadism
A
Dx on measuring Testosterone, LH, FSH and prolactin

Tx for hypogonadism
A
Treat underlying cause eg hyper prolactin = dopamine agonist eg bromocriptine.
Testosterone replacement therapy either orally or monthly injection or 6 m S/C implant or patch, or depot.
Cx of not treating osteoporosis, lethargy and weakness.
