H17 Flashcards
What are the 3 factors that define deviant driving?
- Violatings
- Errors
- Lapses
- Violatings
Are intentional and deliberate acts of ignoring traffic rules
- Errors
Can also have serious consequences for safety, however here it is not the question of intention, but rather the failure to drive properly
- Lapses
Refer to attention and memory deficits that are often not harmful
Illusion of control
The subjective approach to the probability of being involved in an accident
Self-enhancement bias
A tendency to make overly positive judgements about the self
Experienced risk
The subjective feelings of risk at a given moment while driving
Risk models
Foces on how drivers use subjective feelings of risk to regulate their drivingbehaviour and which factors increase or decrease this feeling
The risk homeostasis theory
Drivers have a target level for risk. When the perceived risk does not reach this level, drivers will start showing more risky behaviour so that the desired threshold of risk is reached
The task capability interface model
This model describes the driving task and shows how task difficulties can be derived from task requirements and a persons capabilities as a driver
Enforcement
A widely used intervention to encourage road safety. It refers to the stationary and mobile identification of law violations and the subsequent application of fines or imprisonment
