Groupers

A

Often dark brown, black or reddish with splotchy markings. Can change color, marking & shade, sometimes making it hard to determine exact species. They have short spiny dorsal fins that taper down to the tail.
Common types: Jewfish, Nassau, Yellowfin, Black, Peacock, Coral & Potato groupers.

Seabass

A

Tend to be smaller & more elongated than groupers. Often dark, w/lighter spots and varied markings. They tend to stay near the bottom.
Common types: Graysby, Rock Hind, Coney, Harlequin, Soapfish and Kelp bass.

A

Tiny, usually colorful fish related to the seabass family. Find them on deeper reefs and walls.
