Snappers

Have upturned snouts & mouths, w/visible canine teeth that they snap open & shut when caught (hence their name). They may be small, and travel well over the reef in loose schools.
Common types: Gray, Cubera, Dog, Schoolmaster, Yellowtail, Twinspot and Bluestriped snappers.

Grunts

Answer 2

Got their name because they make a grunting noise when caught. Seen in small groups & large schools on the reef,or at night singly in sand flats and grass beds. May be colorful w/stripes, in some areas grunts are called sweetlips.
Common types: French, Bluestriped, Blackspotted & Oriental grunts.
