What is a performance routine prior to competition with an example?
Pre-performance routines are immediately before the performance. An example is kicking at the goal.
What is a performance routine during competition with an example?
During the performance, routines occur during breaks in performance in games. For example, some tennis players keep cue cards to quickly scan over them whilst others use their breaks to refocus their thoughts.
What is a performance routine post-competition with an example?
Post-performance routines take place after the skill has been performed and prepares the performer for the next shot. An example is a spiker in volleyball who misses a simple shot. A post-performance routine helps put this error in the past and concentrate on the next shot.
How can performance routines help with stress
Performance routines reduce the stress response as it gives belief that they are in full control and therefore reduce physical effects of the stress response.
How can performance routines help with concentration
Perofrmance routines help the athlete to focus on revelent cues and ignore irrevelent cues. Allows players to control their emotions and gather their thoughts.
How can performance routines help with arousal
Performance routines decrease arousal levels.
How can performance routines help with motivation
Performance routines heighten motivation. As each part of the routine is completed, intrinsic motivation and excitement increase.
How can performance routines help self confidence
Performance routines will increase self-confidence as the athlete is able to relate to past successes with the routine making them feel more in control
