- Performance goals - Related to personal performance.
- Process goals - Focus on behaviours and techniques.

Why do goals need to be specific (SMARTER + SCCAMP)
Clear and specific goals to focus on.
Why do goals need to be measurable (SMARTER + SCCAMP)
Need to be able to be assessable to see if there is progress.
Why do goals need to be action orientated (SMARTER)
The actions required to achieve the desired goal are clear.
Why do goals need to be realistic (SMARTER)
Goals need to be achievable and within the athlete’s capacity,
Why do goals need to be time-phased (SMARTER)
A specific date for completion needs to be set.
Why do goals need to be effective (SMARTER)
Capable of attaining desired results.
Why do goals need to be reviewed (SMARTER)
Goals are monitored and adjustments are made if necessary.
Why do goals need to be challenging (SCCAMP)
The goal should be challenging for the individual.
Why do goals need to be controllable (SCCAMP)
The goal must be controlled by the athlete and not dependent on others.

The goal should be realistically attainable.
