Define ‘layout’.
It is the physical organisation of a text.
Define an ‘iconic sign’.
It is the sign/image that is a direct picture of the thing it represents.
Define a ‘symbolic sign’.
It is the sign/image where an associated meaning is drawn from some shared degree of knowledge.
What is a ‘typographical feature’?
It is a feature related to the use of fonts.
What is a ‘multimodal text’?
It is a text that relies on the interplay (interaction) of written and visual codes. eg. In Macbeth, an image of a hand can correlate to “out damn spot”.
Give an example of an iconic sign.
Any fast food chain logo, logos.
Give an example of a symbolic sign.
Triangle can represent female whilst rectangle can represent a male.
