Effects on Speech Flashcards
What is the effect of ‘Pace’ in speech?
Pace is the speed of the speech. The slower can be analysed about how controlled and calm the individual is whereas a fast speech can be interpreted as the speaker unable to control their excitement or panic (emotions).
What is the effect of ‘Volume’ in speech?
The volume is the projection the voice. The louder it is can show enthusiasm and excitement but also can show anger. A quiet (more gentile) voice can be a politeness strategy.
What is the effect of ‘Pitch’ in speech?
The level of voice the speaker is using can suggest the excitement of the speaker from a high pitch but a low pitch can show depression or some form of withering emotion.
What is the effect of ‘Pauses’ in speech?
Pauses can be used to add effect or more emphasis to sink into a word or phrase.
What is the term ‘Stress’ used in a a figure of speech?
Stress is to emphasise that each word of phrase has a pattern of syllables - stressed or unstressed can give harsh or light connotations upon those set of words or phrase. This is otherwise known as ‘Natural Changing’.
What is ‘Rhythm’ in speech?
Rhythm is very similar to ‘stresses’ in speech. A more prepared speech may seem rhythmic showing the preparation of the individual.
What is the effect of ‘Intonation’?
Same words can mean different things depending on how well the speaker uses them and says them (with context) as it can portray anger/happiness. This is all due to the articulation of any effect (within this deck).
