Gout Drugs Flashcards
colchicine effects & usage (3)
decreased inflammation & pain in acute attacks
effective in 12-24 h
oral
colchicine SE (3)
severe diarrhea
N/V
abd pain
NSAIDs used for gout (4) and not used (2)
indomethacin, naproxen, sulindac, celecoxib
aspirin & salicylates
uricosuric agents (4)
probenecid
allopurinol
febuxostat
rasburicase
uricosuric agents SE (3)
risk of kidney stones
may trigger acute gouty attack initially
GI irritation
probenecid tx guidelines (2)
oral
don’t start within 2-3 weeks after an acute attack
allopurinol & febuxostat MOA and tx use
inhibits xanthine oxidase –> inhibits uric acid synthesis
tx primary & secondary gout
allopurinol & febuxostat SE (4)
vasculitis
agranulocytosis
hypersensitivity
may provoke attack initially
allopurinol drug interactions (3)
warfarin
probenecid
fluorouracil
rasburicase (Fasturtec) MOA
catalyzes oxidation of uric acid to allantoin, which is excreted
rasburicase (Fasturtec) SE
risk for tumor lysis syndr. in pts w/ hematological malignancies
—> hyperuricemia
colchicine MOA
binds to tubulin –> inhibits leukocyte migration & phagocytosis –> decr. inflammation & pain
