Girdles Flashcards
What is the pectoral girdle and what is its function
Clavicle and scapula; set of bones that connect the upper limbs to the axial skeleton
What joint connects the pectoral girdle to the axial skeleton
Sternoclavicular joint
What does the scapula articulate with
Humerus and clavicle
What is the lateral end of the clavicle called
Acromial end
What is the medial end of the clavicle called
Sternal end
What does the scapula stop the upper limb from doing
Keeps upper limb away from the thorax so limb has maximum range of movement
What ligaments connect the clavicle and scapula
Coracoclavicular ligaments
What joint articulates with the humerus and scapula
Glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint)
What are the 4 muscles in the shoulder joint
Supraspinatus; infraspinatus; teres minor; subscapularis
What is the brachial plexus
Arrangement of nerve fibres, running to and from the spinal chord (C5-T1)
What artery provides the scapula with blood
Scapular anastomosis
What nerves supply the pelvic and lower limbs region
Lumbosacral plexus
Where does the brachial plexus proceed to in the body
The neck, the axilla (armpit region) and into the upper limb
What is the infrapubic angle in males
Less than 90° (pelvic inlet = heart shaped)
What is the infrapubic angle in females
More than 90° (pelvic inlet = oval shaped)
