Giantism vs Acromegaly differences
Gigantism occurs before puberty: As long as plates don’t close, people can continues to grow.
Acromegaly- Plates closed but tissues continue to grow.
Hypersecretion: Tall Stature in adults( Acromegaly)
A person can not grow taller since the epiphyseal lines are closed but
soft tissues under the influence of growth hormone can continue to
grow.
Small bones of the hands and feet continue to grow as well as the
membranous bones of the skull
Kyphosis develops
Organs gro
Constitutional tall stature:
Describes a child who is growing faster than their peers but a velocity that is age
appropriate.
This is seen with children whose parents a both taller than
average
What is the most common cause of acromegaly?
Benign adenoma
Jake was viewing family pictures and noticed that his cousin’s
appearance has changed over the years. His hands are larger and his
cousin was complaining of having to buy new shoes because the others
were too small. His glasses also didn’t fit. What could be the problem?
