What is first and second line investigations for Cholecystitis/Biliary colic?
1) Ultrasound
2) MRCP followed by ERCP
-Need to determine whether the CBD is dilated
What is first and second line investigations for Pancreatitis?
1) Ultrasound to confirm gallstones/obstruction
2) CT a week later to assess for complications (pseudocysts)
What is first and second line investigations for Perforation?
1) Erect CXR
2) CT to show intraperitoneal collection

1) Ultrasound

1) CT scan

1) Endoscopy
2) CT with IV contrast during bleed

1) Endoscopy
2) Barium swallow (need to be able to stand up and move around)
What is first and second line investigations for Change in Bowel Habit?
1) Barium enema (cheap, widely available) or CT colonography (more expensive)
2) Flexible sigmoidoscopy to reach right colon
What is first and second line investigations for Change in Bowel Habit when the patient is known to have IBD?
1)Radio-labelled White Cell scan which can view localised active infection
What is first and second line investigations for Change in Bowel Habit when the patient is suspected to have IBD?
1) Endoscopy
2) Fluoroscopy contrast if small bowel suspected, looking for strictures, wall thickening, fistula. Pay special attention to terminal ileum
What is first and second line investigations for Jaundice?
1) Ultrasound
2) MRCP/ERCP- remove blockage by ERCP
3) CT can identify primary liver tumour
