gingiva and hard palate
what is different about gingiva and hard palate?
- keratinized
- dense CT in lamina propria
- lack submucosa (mucosa attaches directly to bone)
what layer is absent in the ventral tongue?
submucosa
what are the cell types that compose taste buds?
neuroepithelial- sensory
support cells
basal cells (stem cells)
where are the taste buds located?
- lingual papilla: fungiform (dorsal), circumvaliate/foliate (lateral) also soft palate, pharynx and epiglottis
describe enamel
covers crown, mostly hydroxyapetite, no collagen, made by ameloblasts
describe dentin
bulk of tooth, contains pulp cavity and root cavity, hydroxyapetite and collagen I, made by odontoblasts
describe cemetum
covers root, mineral/like bone but avascular, made by cementocytes
what is intrinsic vs extrinsic GI innervation?
intrinisc- meissners and auerbachs
extrinsic- autonomics
what is present in the lamina propria of the esophagus?
esophageal cardiac glands and lymph tissue
what do esophageal cardiac glands secrete?
neutral mucus
what is present in the submucosa of the esophagus?
esophageal glands
what do esophageal glands secrete?
slightly acidic mucus
what innervates von ebner’s glands?
parasympathetics from CN IX
