DEFORESTATION
The clearing away of trees and other forms of vegetation
REAFFORESTATION
The replanting of trees in areas where vegetation has been cleared
SUBSTISTENCE AGRICULTURE
Where all produce is needed by the farmer’s family. There is no surplus for sale
COMMERCIAL AGRICULTURE
The production of agricultural goods that are for sale. For e.g. bananas, coffee, sugarcane. They are also called cash crops
SHIFTING CULTIVATION
The type of farming where people move every few years as the soil becomes exhausted
POPULATION
It is the number of people living in a place
BIRTH RATE
it is the number of births in a country in a year per thousand people
DEATH RATE
It is the number of deaths in a country in a year, per thousand people
NATURAL INCREASE
The birth rate minus the death rate, given as a percetage
POPULATION DENSITY
It is the average number of people per square kilometre
POPULATION DISTRIBUTION
It means how the people are spread around the world
