What is Mycoplasma Genitalium?
A
A bacterial STI that can cause non-gonococcal urethritis.

What is Non-Gonococcal Urethritis/Non-Specific Urethritis?
A
Gonococcal bacteria are not identifiable on the initial swab (gram-negative diplococci).

Causative Organisms of Non-Gonococcal Urethritis (2).
A
- Chlamydia trachomatis (commonest).
2. Mycoplasma genitalium (more symptomatic than Chalmydia).

Clinical Features of Mycoplasma Genitalium.
A
- Asymptomatic.
- Similar to Chlamydia.
- URETHRITIS.

Investigations of Mycoplasma Genitalium.
A
- NAAT.
- 1st Line : 1st Urine Sample in Morning (Men) and Vaginal Swabs (Self-Taken : Women).
- Check positive samples for Macrolide Resistance.

Test of Cure in Mycoplasma Genitalium.
A
Check after treatment in every positive patient.

Management of Mycoplasma Genitalium.
A
- Doxycycline 100mg BD for 7 Days + Azithromycin 1g STAT and then 500mg OD for 2 Days.
- Moxifloxacin - Alternative/Complicated Infections.

Complications of Mycoplasma Genitalium (8).
A
- Urethritis.
- Epididymitis.
- Cervicitis.
- Endometritis.
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.
- Reactive Arthritis.
- Preterm Delivery in Pregnancy.
- Tubal Infertility.
