Géibheann: Achoimre Flashcards
In my opinion, the strongest emotion in this poem is hopelessness/sadness
Dar liom, an mothúcháin is láidre sa dán seo ná éadochas/brón
In the first half of the poem, the animal is happy, the animal spends its time in the tropics
Sa chéad leath den dán, tá t-animhí sona agus ag caitheann an t-ainmhí den ama chaith sé sna teochriosanna
The animal was free in the tropics
Bhí an t-ainmhí saor sna teochriosanna
The animal spent his days in the tropics running around, roaring and scaring other animals
Chaith an t-ainmhí na laethanta sna teochriosanna ag rith timpeall, ag búiríl, agus ag scanrú na n-ainmhithe eile
The animal was in charge of his own life
Bhí an t-ainmhí i gceannas ar a shail féin
As well as that, when the animal was in charge of himself in the tropics, he was strong and energetic
Chomh maith leis sin, nuair a bhí an t-ainmhí i gceannas air féin sna teochriosanna, bhí sé láidir agus fuinnuíl
However, that didn’t last long
Níor mhair an saol sin, áfach
There is a big contrast between the first half of the poem and the second half of the poem
Tá codarsnacht mhór idir an chéad leath den dán agus an dara leath den dán
The poet creates an image of the animal in the zoo
Cruthaíonn an file íomhá d’ainmhí i zú
The atmosphere is pessimistic in the second half of the poem
Tá atmaisféar éadóchasach sa dara leath den dán
The animal was in prison
Príosún atá ann don ainmhí
It is an unnatural place
Tá sé in áit mhínádúrtha
The animal doesn’t care about life now and spends his boring life
Ní suim ag an ainmhí sa saol anois agus caitheann sé saol leadránach
As well as that, the animal’s spirit is broken and he is depressed
Chomh maith leis sin, tá spioradan ainmhí briste agus tá sé in ísle brí
I had pity for the animal
Tá trua agam don ainmhí
