GDM and MODY Flashcards
what is GDM?
diabetes that arises in pregnancy, usually in 2nd or 3rd trimester
what happens post-natally for women with GDM?
6 week post natal check
lifelong testing every 3 years
what is MODY?
maturity onset diabetes of the young
MODY AD mutations
- glucokinase
- transcription factors
- neonatal
glucokinase MODY presentation
hyperglycaemia from birth
fasting blood glucose is higher e.g. 7mmol/L not 5
stable as body can adapt
management of MODY glucokinase
diet
presentation of transcription factor MODY
blood glucose is normal at birth with progressive hyperglycaemia at adolescence
management of transcription factor MODY
diet
SUs
insulin
what does neonatal diabetes require?
requires insulin within first 3 months of life
two types of neonatal diabetes?
- transient= resolves around 12 weeks
2. permanent
