10
Q

Explain the process?

A

Galvanic current flows through the body and produces chemical change at the two electrodes. The needle passes the direct current into the hair follicle and causes the water and salt to change into sodium hydroxide, chlorine gas and hydrogen gas. The sodium hydroxide destroys the hair follicle.

12
Q

What happens to the chlorine gas and hydrogen gas?

A

Escapes from the follicle - known as frothing. Indicates the follicle is moist, more destructive lye has been produced.

13
Q

Benefits of galvanic.

A

Most successful method but slowest.
less discomfort.
Chemical reaction produces wider field of tissue destruction.
Good for curved or distorted follicles
Less tissue destruction as current attracted to highest moisture gradient (dermal papilla)

14
Q

What are you aiming for in relation to current intensity?

A

To increase the current intensity until you achieve an effective level, treating as quickly as possible with the lowest intensity and minimum discomfort.

15
Q

Why is the action of the lye greatest at the lower part of the follicle?

A

Because of the moisture gradient - more moisture is present a the lower part of the follicle. This reduces the possibility of the current causing superficial skin damage.

16
Q

Explain cataphoresis

A

As aftercare the roller is used as the positive electrode to reduce erythema, soothe nerve endings and have a tightening effect on the pores. Produces hydrochloric acid that is produced neutralises the sodium hydroxide.

17
Q

If a client wanted a galvanic treatment but had shallow follicles?

A

Use SWD

18
Q

What is the purpose of anaphoresis during a galvanic electrolysis treatment?

A

Open the pores, increase erythema and relax the tissue therefore allowing easier insertion of the needle.
