Contra-actions to electrical epilation Flashcards
Cause and treatment for profuse sweating
Client is nervous, has been rushing, treatment room is warm.
Try to cool client down. Current will need to be reduced to ensure it doesn’t reach the skin’s surface too quickly.
Cause and treatment of Erythema
Normal. The damage that occurs in follicle causes the mast cells to burst, these release histamine causing blood vessels to dilate. Over treatment of area will cause further erythema.
Cold cotton wool compress.
Soothing aftercare product and follow after care advice.
If excessive in future reduce current and treatment time.
More space between probes.
Time to minimum and allow time in between treatments for skin to repair.
Cause and treatment of swelling
Small amount of swelling around the mouth of treated follicle normal. Histamine causes swelling. If area very swollen could be allergy to product or needle. Or over insertion or incorrect.
Soothing aftercare product.
Cold cotton wool compress.
Ice pack
Cause and treatment of lymph and water blisters (blanching)
Skin whitens under the top layer. Heat causes lymph fluid to enter the area.
The current is applied too close to the skins surface or the intensity is too high or applied for too long
Keep area dry use antiseptic products
ensure probing is deeper and if current too high reduce.
Don’t apply current for too long.
Cause and treatment of bruising.
Can be immediate or up to 24 hours later caused by rupture or small blood vessels. Incorrect probing damages follicle walls. Using too big a needle for follicle.
Cold compress, apply pressure.
Witch hazel.
Reassess adjust technique.
Cause and treatment of hyper pigmentation.
Heat activates pigment molecules.
Probing and applying current too superficially.
Applying current when entering or leaving.
Current intensity too high.
Probing too close together,
UV rays affecting area that was a scab.
Asian or dark skin prone.
Correct and adjust technique if caused by incorrect technique.
Minimum current if client prone to condition.
Advise to wear SPF
Not pick scabs
No exfoliant when scabs present.
Will disappear or lessen over time.
If client suffers even after taking all precautions may have to cease the treatment
Cause and treatment of hypo pigmentation.
Current too high. Pigment molecules lose ability to function. Space insertions carefully. Work with minimum current. May have to cease treatment.
Cause and treatment of bleeding
Probing too deep or at incorrect angle. Dry cotton wool with pressure. Antiseptic wipe. Change gloves and needle. Will subside.
Cause and treatment of pitting.
Severe skin damage to the basal layer causes the skin to heal inverted. Applying the current when entering or removing. Over treating an area. Current too high or too long Severe burning or picking scabs Take care current not too high. Not pick scabs. Keep area dry use antiseptic products.
Cause and treatment of keloids.
A scar that doesn’t stop growing. Common in african and indian skin. Over treatment will cause more.
If prone don’t treat. They are permanent. Can be treated with laser, cortisone or freezing.
Cause and treatment of skin sensitivity.
Products or needle.
Gold or insulated needle.
Space out treatments, reduce timing of treatment. cold compress.
Cause and treatment of in growing hairs
Dead skin cells, tight clothes.
Release the hair using tweezers or sterile needle. If infected trim. If not infected can epilate. recommend exfoliation and moisturise.
Cause and treatment of Blemishes
Bacterial infection invades follicle.
Follow strict hygiene. Tell client not to touch area or pick. Anitiseptic wipe. Will disappear.
Cause and treatment of crusts or scabs
seepage or blood into follicle. Lymph n to the follicle through capillary walls. Inaccurate insertions. Overuse of current.
Anti septic
Correct insertion.
Cause and treatment of gas blister
Hydrogen filled or water/hydrogen blister due to galvanic or blend current.
Press blister with sterile tissue once needle removed
Strict hygiene to be followed.
