G6_Intro_to_Visceral_NS_EXAM1 Flashcards
Which uses a SINGLE neuron in pathway?
Which uses TWO neurons in pathway?
SINGLE NEURON:
THE 3 SENSORY SYSTEMS:
1. Somatic Afferent & Efferent
2. Visceral Afferent
TWO NEURONS:
- Visceral Motor Efferent
- Sympathetic and Parasympathetic
Dual is the Rule. 2 Exceptions to the rule? 3 organs of the exception?
-Organs have antagonistic innervation from both SNS and PSNS
Exceptions:
- PARASYMPATHETICS DONT GO TO THE BODY WALL!
- Adrenal gland
- Body Wall structures (arrector pili, sweat/seba. glands, vascular smooth muscle)
CRANIAL PORTION of PSNS:
Where is preganglionic and postganglionic cell bodies? What do they innervate? Where does it’s innervation end?
PSNS Uses CN X- VAGUS NERVE
- preganglionic cell bodies in brainstem nucleus
-Postganglionic cell bodies in INTRINSIC GANGLIA
(in/near walls of target organ)
-Innervates visceral organs of Thoracic and abdominal cavities up till the proximal 2/3 of the transverse colon
SACRAL PORTION of PSNS:
Where is preganglionic and postganglionic cell bodies? what does it innervate?
Pregang- S2-S4 “sacral parasympathetic nucleus”
- INTERMEDIATE ZONE in gray matter
-the indent on middle left of butterfly
Pregang- travel as pelvic splanchnic nerves
Postgang- Intrinsic ganglia
innervates everything past distal 1/3 of transverse colon
pelvic viscera
What is intrinsic ganglia? where found? what uses them?
in or near the walls of target organs
PSNS
What is IMLCC? What found here? what part of spinal cord are they found?
Intermediolateral cell column
Pregang neuron cell bodies of SNS
-located T1-L2
Where are postganglionic neuronal cell bodies found in the SYMPATHETIC NS?
Paravertebral ganglion- Lateral sides of vertebral body Prevertebral ganglion (preaortic)- lateral sides of abdominal aorta
How do pain signals go back to CNS?
Return via Sympathetic pathway responsponsible for innervating the structure
- pseudounipolar neurons
Posterior root ganglion of t1-L2
How do non-pain signals return to cns?
PSNS pathway responsible for that structure
-Vagus nerve or pelvic splanchnic nerves
inferior ganglion of vagus or posterior root ganglia of s2-s4
SYMPATHETIC NS-
What is called? Where pregang cb at?
Thoracolumbar
pregang cb’s T1-L2 AT IMLCC
Postgang cb’s in paravertebral ganglia or prevertebral ganglia
PARASYMPATHETIC NS-
What called? where pregang postgang?
Craniosacral
pregang cb’s in Branstem nuclei- uses CNX Vagus
Post gang- intrinsic ganglia (wall of target)
INTERMEDIATE ZONE of gray matter
3 pathways for Sympathetic neurons:
Targets in body wall, thoracic viscera, pelvic viscera
- targets in body wall (arrector pili, vascular sm, sweat/sebaceous glands)- synapse in paravertebral ganglion then rejoin spinal nerve
- targets in thoracic viscera (heart/lungs)- synapse in paravertebral ganglion then form cardiopulmonary splanchnic nerves
- Targets in abdominal/pelvic viscera (gi, urogenital)
- pregang exit paravertebral ganglion and form abdominopelvic splanchnic nerve then synapse in prevertebral ganglion- post gang follow arteries to target
3 ways to go:
Body wall, thoracic, pelvic viscera
Body wall- synapse @ Paravertebral ganglia > target
Thoracic- same but postgang out via thoracicsplanchnic nerves>target
Pelvic- travel through paravertebral ganglia and synapse in prevertebral gang>pelvicsplanchnic nerves to target
