EXAM 2 Clinical Material Applixation Flashcards
5 P’s of vascular occlusion
- pain
- Paresthesia (tingling)
- Pallor
- Pulselessness
- Paralysis
Anesthesia, paresthesia, hyperesthesia
loss of sensation
abnorma (tingling)
diminished sensation
C5 C6 lesion what muscles- 4 muscles
what are 2 muscles that could be affected also
Supraspinatus Deltoid Biceps Brachialis Pectoralis Major (clavicular head) Extensor carpi radialis longus (c6-c7)
C6,C7,C8 Lesion what 2 muscles and 1 group of muscles
Latissimus
Triceps
Long extensors of wrist and digits
C7,C8, T1
Long flexors of wrist and digits
C8, T1
Small muscles of hand
Where do you test for these dermatomes? What reflexes tested at these levels/locations?
C5, 6, 7, 8 T1
C5- Lateral arm (biceps reflex) C6- lateral forearm thumb (brachioradialis biceps reflex) C7- 3rd digit (triceps reflex) C8- 5th digit T1- medial forearm
Muscle action tested at c5,6,7,8 t1
C5- Shoulder abduction- Elbow flexion 6- elbow flexion, wrist extension 7- elbow extension, wrist flextion 8- digit flexion T1- digit adduction/abduction
ERB-Duchenne palsy
What is it? How done?
What is the deformity?
Characteristics of Motor loss relating to C5-C6 myotomes
extending neck traumas
Waiters tip deformity (wrist flexed posterior, arm extended, shoulder adducted and medially rotated)
CUTANEOUS: lateral arm, lateral forearm and thumb
Backpack palsy
What nerve compressed?
Affected nerves?
compression trauma of suprascapular nerve
-affects: terminal branches of lateral cord:
-musculocutaneous & lateral root of median nerve
Terminal branches of posterior cord (axillary and radial)
loss cutaneous from c5,c6, lateral arm/forearm/thumb
Suprascapular nerve entrapment
motor loss-
sensory loss-
compressed as passes through suprascapular notch
- difficult initiation abduction
- no cutaneous sensation lost
Lower Root lesions of plexus (C8, T1)
Affected dermatomes/myotomes?
what autonomic symptom may be present?
over extended/stretched/pulled arm
C8-T1 dermatomes and myotomes affected
-Medial forearm , arm, and digit 4,5 sensation
- flexors of wrist/digits
- Small hand muscles
May have horners syndrome (autonomic symptoms)
What palsy from loss of C8/T1?
what deformity?
KLUMPKE PALSY
-Claw hand deformity
Mainly small muscles of hand but also
Long flexors of wrist and digits
Loss of cutaneous medial arm/forearm/digit 4,5
Describe Claw hand deformity
Kumpke palsy c8,t1
- FLEXED DIP/PIP
- EXTENDED MCP joints
- Thumb abducted and extended (to the square)
Describe Full claw deformity
Ulnar (c8,T1) & Median (c6-t1)-thenar/lumbricals
