What is the intended purpose of the weapons that are issued to sworn personnel?
To protect the lives of officers and other persons
Who carries a taser?
Anyone below lieutenant, in uniform, and on duty
What shall you carry if you’re not trained in a taser?
OC and a baton
While on duty and in plain clothes, should the firearm be concealed or open carry in public places?
Concealed
How full should carbine mags be?
Filled to capacity, then 2 rounds removed
How many backup firearms can sworn personnel carry?
One
What size firearm are we allowed to carry as a backup?
At least .35 caliber
What are the instances that a backup firearm may be used in lieu of the department issued firearm?
1) . Primary firearm has been rendered ineffective due to malfunction
2) . Primary firearm has been or is being seized from the officer by force
3) . Primary firearm would be in feasible or impractical due to the nature of the situation in which the officer is confronted
Sworn officers below the rank of what, are required to qual with a firearm?
Lieutenant
What happens if an officer fails to successfully complete the quals with the rifle or the handgun?
They must surrender it to the firearms range supervisor
How many remedial hours are required for an officer to requalify?
20 hours
Can you keep your duty firearm at work in a locker?
No. At no time will loaded firearms be stored or maintained within department buildings
How often will weapons that aren’t permanently assigned to officers be inspected and cleaned?
Once a month. Done by personnel assigned by the commanding officer
How often will a range supervisor inspect and document the unassigned weapons for safety and functionality?
At least annually
