what is it and mechanism
A
loop diuretic
decrease Na reabsorption in ascending LofH
so less Na+ in interstitium so water doesn’t move out of collecting duct
so excrete more urine

A
oedema
CHF cirrhosis renal disease e.g. nephrotic syndrome orally in mild hypertension pulmonary oedema

contraindications
A
anuria
comatose
renal failure
sever hypokalaemia/ hyponatraemia

antiarrythmics e.g. amiodarone, digoxin
targeted cancer drugs e.g. carbozantinib
SSRIs e.g. citalopram
macrolide antibiotics e.g. clarithromycin
antifungals e.g. fluconazole

polyuria polydipsia headache confused/ dizzy nausea tachycardia
