what is it and mechanism
A
Anti-platelet agent
prevents platelet aggregation by competitively inhibiting ADP receptors on platelets

indications
A
secondary prevention of atherothrombotic events
e.g. post stroke to prevent another one
prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with AF and at risk of vascular event for whom warfarin is unavailable

contraindications
A
active bleeding e.g. peptic ulcer
severe hepatic impairment

interactions
A
oral anticoagulants e.g. heparin
other antiplatelets e.g. aspirin
NSAIDs e.g. aspirin
SSRIs e.g. sertraline - they also reduce platelet aggregation

A
Haematoma Epistaxis GI haemorrhage Bruising/ skin reactions Abdo Pain Dyspepsia Diarrhoea
