what is it and mechanism
A
thiazide diuretic
inhibits Na and Cl reabsorption in the DCT (as opposed to LofH in loop) leading to more excretion of water
used more in the treatment of hypertension than loops

hypertension
oedema caused by heart failure

contraindications
A
Addison’s disease (adrenal gland doesn’t produce too little cortisol)
hypercalcaemia
hyponatraemia
hypokalaemia

A
anti-arrhythmias e.g. amiodarone, digoxin
NSAIDS e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen
calcium carbonate, chloride etc.
SSRI e.g.citalopram
macrolide antibiotics e.g. clarithromycin, erythromycin
targeted cancer cells e.g. sunitinib
antifungals e.g. fluconazole
