The coat –
During first half of the century was very full at the back (√)
with large turned back cuffs (√).
It later lost volume in the skirt (√), sleeves became narrower with cuffs reduced to normal size (√).
The two front parts were cut away (√). By the end of the century the lapels were wide, sometimes extremely so (√). It had buttons all the way down the
front (√) but seldom buttoned (√).
The waistcoat –
Was a little bit shorter than the coat (√) with a plain fabric back (√), often the same as the lining (√). It was worn buttoned (√). The waistcoat developed into today’s vest
The spencer –
A short waist length coat (√) of even length) (√) with no tail at the back (√).
