Pleats were edge stitched caused the back bodice fit closely to the body.

Enormous proportions.
Padded with fabric or false hair and stiffened with flour paste.
Men could remove their headpieces but womens had to last several weeks. Low hygiene women never bathed so they cut slits into their hairstyles to scratch itching infected scalps with a stick.
Often wore a calash when going outside.
