Mission of Assault Amphibian Battalion
To land the surface assault elements of the landing force and their equipment in a single lift from assault shipping during amphibious operations to inland objectives and to conduct mechanized operations and related combat support in subsequent operations ashore.
Organization of Assault Amphibian Battalion
H&S Company and 4 assault amphibian companies
Employment of the Assault Amphibian Battalion
Assigned to or in support of a MAGTF to provide ship to shore lift capability during the amphibious assault.
During operations ashore, battalion elements provide mobility equal to that of tanks to the assaulting elements of the MAGTF.
