Mission of an artillery regiment
To furnish close and continuous five support by neutralizing, destroying, op suppressing targets that threaten the success of the support unit.
Organization of an artillery regiment
- 4 artillery battalions in the 10th and 11th marine regiments and two in the 15th marine regiment.
- The basic means of ground mobility is organic vehicular transportation.
-each regiment is equipped with a counter battery radar platoon. 5 an/tpq-46a counter battery radars.
Mission of the artillery battalion
In the Mar division is to finish close and continuous sire support by neutralizing, destroying or suppressing targets that threaten the success of the supported unit.
Organization of artillery battalion
- Consists of a headquarters battery and firing batteries.
- artillery battalion have 3 op 4 siring batteries of 6 howitzer
-m 198,155mm towed howitzers.
Primary function of the 4777 howitzer
Provides field artillery fire support for all MAGTF

Rate of Fire: maximum: 5-8 rounds per minute/ sustained: 2 rounds per minute
Crew: 5 enlisted
Helicopter transportable by: MV-22 Osprey, ch-53e super sea stallion, ch-47 sea knight.

Primary function of the M327 mortar system
Provides artillery fire in support of ground gaining troops.
M327 mortar system characteristics
Bore Diameter: 120mm
Crew: 5 enlisted: Section Chief, Gunner, 1-3 Cannoneer
Types of Projectiles: -M1101: High Explosive, radius is 45 meters.
-M1103: Obscurant (Smoke), 6.17 LB of white phosphorus -M1105: Visible illumination, 1.5 million candle power for 65 seconds.
Primary function of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS)
Provides indirect, field artillery surfaces-to-surface rocket guided missiles that are capable of firing all rockets and missiles.
HIMARS characteristics
-A modified 5-ton, 6x6 longs wheeled base truck. 3 man crew & provides protection from toxic gases.
-Crew: 3 enlisted (driver, gunner, launcher chief)
-Air transportable: KC-130 Hercules
