7 elements of the Marine Corps Mission
Provide FMF with combined arms and supporting air components for service.
Provide detachments and organizations for service on armed vessels.
Develop in coordination with the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the doctrine, tactics, and techniques, and equipment employed by landing forces in amphibious operations.
Provide Marine forces for airborne operations, in coordination with the Army, Navy, Air Force, according to the doctrine established by Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Develop, in coordination with the Army, Navy, And Airforce, the doctrine, procedures, and equipment for airborne operations.
Expand peacetime components to meet wartime needs according to the joint mobilization plans.
Perform such other duties as the President may direct.
Two parallel chains of command
Service: President, Sec Def, Sec Nav, Commandant of the MC.
Operational: President, Sec Def, Commanders of Combatant Commands.
3 Marine Corps Operating Forces
-Marine Corps Forces (MARFOR)
-Marine Corps Security Forces (MCSF)
-Marine Security Guard Detachments
Marine Corps Forces (MARFOR)
Organized as MAGTFs’ and employed as part of naval expeditionary forces or separately as part of larger or joint combined forces.
Commanders of MARFOR Atlantic & Pacific serve as Marine Corps component commanders to their respective combatant commanders & may also serve as commanding generals of FMF Atlantic, Pacific, and Europe.
MCSF
-3,400 marines that protect key naval installations and facilities worldwide.
-Part of the operating forces of the Marine Corps.
-Security forces include marine barracks and Marine security forces companies CONUS and abroad as well as Marine Detachments afloat.
Marine Security Guard Detachments
-At embassies and consulates around the world.
-Marine security guard battalion provides forces to the Department of State for embassy security.
-121 diplomatic posts in 115 countries.
HQ, U.S. Marine Corps
Consists of the Commandant of the MC & those staff agencies that advise and assist the Commandant in discharging those responsibilities prescribed by law and higher authority.
The Commandant of the MC
Directly responsible to the Sec Nav for the administration, discipline, internal organization, training, requirements, efficiency and readiness of the MC.
The operation of the MC material support system and total performance of the MC.
Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF)
MCs’ principle organization for the conduct of all missions across the range of military operations.
MEF MIG
Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group
-Provides administrative and service support to MEF CE and MIG subordinate units.
-Provides HQ commandant support to the MEF CE.
Command Element (CE)
CE is the MAGTF headquarters
-Task organized to provide command and control capabilities necessary for effective planning, direction, and execution of all operations.

(MARCENT) Marine Corps Forces Central Command
Designated as the Marine Corps service component for U.S. Central Command.
Responsible for all MC forces in the CENTCOM area of responsibility.
Provides MEF capable of conducting a wide range of ops, offering the command a responsible and unique set of capabilities.
MARFORRES: Marine Corps Forces Reserve
Vital element of the Marine Corps total force and is organized under the Commander, Marine Corps Forces Reserve (COMMARFORRES).
Can augment and reinforce any operations in which MARFOR participate and contains some capabilities that are not resident in the active forces such as civil affairs and graves registration.

Marine Air Wing, Air Combat Element (ACE)
Task organized to support the MAGTF mission by performing some or all of the six functions of Marine Aviation.
Marine Division, Ground Combat Element (GCE)
Task organized to conduct ground operations in support of the MAGTF.
Marine Logisitics Group (MLG), Logistics Combat Element
Task organized to provide the full range of LC functions and capabilities needed to support the continued readiness and sustainability of the MAGTF as a whole.

MEF consists of a permanent CE and one Marine division, MAW, FSSG.
Marine Expeditionary Brigades (MEB)
A MAGTF built around a reinforced infantry regiment, an aircraft group, and a Brigade Service Support Group (BSSG).
Mission of the MEU SOC
Standard forward deployed Marine expeditionary organization, thought of both as a self contained operating force and a forward-deployed extension.

MEU SOC CE
To provide command and control to the MEU SOC.
Responsible for the command and control, direction, planning, and coordination of air, ground and logisitic operations of assigned forces.
MEU SOC Elements
ACE: reinforced helicopter squadron with transport, utility, and attack helicopters.
GCE: Infantry battalion reinforced with artillery, recon, engineer, armor, assault amphibian units, and other detachments.
LCSSE (Combat Service Support group): Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB)

Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force
-Usd for a special purpose (ex. diaster relief, humanitarian assistance,) or in unique instances where employment of one of the 3 basic MAGTFs’ would be inappropriate.
Organization of SPMAGTF
CE: To conduct command and control of operational functions and is tailored to the mission.
ACE: Task-organized detachment of aircraft.
GCE: Is compossed of at least a platoon-sized element
LCE: Task-organized to meet the specific service support requirements of the SPMAGTF.
