Flight Controls Flashcards
Components of Primary flight controls
-Ailerons
-Elevators
-Rudder
Components of secondary flight controls
-Horizontal stabilizer
-Flaps and Slats
-Spoilers
-Ground spoilers
Are all flight controls fly by wire?
No! All except ailerons which are through a cable system
What are the SF-ACE abd how many are there?
They control the Slat/Flaps and there are 2
What does the HS-ACE control?
Horizontal Stabilizer, there is 1
What are the FCMs?
Flight Control Modules. Provide software-based assistance to the P-ACE and are required for normal operation of the flight controls.
FCM 1 & 2 are in the MAU 1.
FCM 3 & 4 are in the MAU 3
What is the CAN BUS?
Connects the FCM to the P-ACE, providing digital inputs to the P-ACE, which are combined with pilot inputs.
What is the Direct Mode?
Less advanced mode that provides for backup operation of the flight controls when there is an abnormal condition. Allows for direct control and does not provide the safety enhancements that are normally associated with FBW technology.
During Direct Mode, the 3 P-ACE units connect the controls directly to the flight controls, providing analog control of the rudder and levator surface actuators.
Fly by Wire backup battery
Duration is 15 minutes. Elevator and rudder actuators
CAn you use autopilot in Direct Mode?
AP is only usable in Normal Mode
What happens if you have a hydraulic pressure to the active PCU?
The standby PCU automatically becomes the active PCU
