Bleeding
A
- extremely possible in hospital situations
- apply preassure if a patient is bleeding
- hold gauze for several minutes, DO NOT keep lifting gauze to see if it’s stopped, could dislodge clots that are beginning to form
- call for help if it has not stopped for a few minutes

Epistaxis - Nosebleed
A
- Have a patient sit up and lean forward
- Apply preassure to the nostril by pinching the nose
- Maintain preassure for 10-15 minutes
- If the nose is still bleeding, insert gauze and notify the nurse

Choking + Hiemlich
A
- can cause obstruction, patient can lose consciousness, call emergency response team if so, prepare to deliver abdominal thrusts, if patient is unresponsive start CPR
- Wrap arms around patients’ waist
- Make a fist with one hand, place the thumb side of the first against the pateint abdomen, in the midline, slightly above the navel and well below the breastbone
- Grasp fist with the other hand and press your fist into the abdomen with quick, forceful upward thrust
- Repeat until the object is expelled or the person is unresponsive

Seizures
A
- Immediate action to prevent aspiration and injury
- Do not attempt to restrain the patient or force anything in the mouth
- Call for assistance, remove anything that can injure the patient
- After seizure subsides, turn the patients head to one side so any secretions can drain out (only if there is no evidence of neck injury)

Shock
A
-rapid pulse, increased shallow breathing, blank state, cold clammy skin
-position head below body, keep patient safe and warm until help arrives

Fainting
A
The patient is dizzy or states they feel they will faint
- lie them down and elevate lower legs or have them sit and place there head between the knees
